Reach Out – The Society That Fears Reaching Out For Its Own Sake

In February 2018, ReliveNow conducted its first interactive session “Reach Out” with psychologists Tania Waqas and Rubina Feroz. They talked about the taboo that is associated with talking regarding mental health and the stigma associated with reaching out to a psychologist for mental health help in Pakistan.

In Pakistan even talking about seeking mental health help is perceived as an extreme measure. They talked about how religion is a significant aspect that shapes people’s attitudes towards mental health and advice that they give to people that require professional psychological help. The session also included an interactive discussion on the ways that each individual can help break the stigma that revolves around mental health.

This was ReliveNow’s first step towards a society that welcomes talking about mental health issues just as they talk about going to the gym.
